This past week, my friend's son, Elias, took third place at the Bakersfield Sixth-grade Math-Bowl.
This follows after his First place (yes, FIRST PLACE) win at the Bakersfield Science Fair about a month ago. He's also won three other awards and medals for his thoughtful work (see pic).

A few weeks ago, I gave him a copy of Homer's Illiad, written in Ancient Greek. After a few hours and with the help of the glossary, which he astoundingly figured out how to use on his own, he had already translated six words in the opening paragraph. Needless to say, Elias rocks.
