Here are some shots I took last year at the Cesar Chavez National Monument in Keene, CA (yeah, only 30 minutes East of Bakersfield on the 58).
His niece and friend of mine, Camilla Chavez, gave us a personal tour of the monument and we all hiked to "The Third Peak."
Camilla grew up on these hills, in this house, which is now the National Monument. She has some incredible stories.
The Three Peaks.
There is no path to the peak.
Camilla and Rivelle.
The view from the Third Peak.
The craftsmanship of the house is inspiring.
The stone carving/fountain behind his burial site is titled, "The Fountain of the Five Martyrs."

Wow. This entire post is inspiring. I didn't know.
It's really just a short (30 minute) drive from Bakersfield. I dare anyone to climb the 3200 foot peak. This is the time of year to do it.
sounds like a roadtrip. i want to go.
count me in too
Dig it.
Dr. Ault, I really want to meet Camilla.
Wow...I wish I would've seen this when I was in Bako. Why did we not take a field trip here when I was a kid?
